CBoS: Gold Tops Exports While Wheat Weighs on Import Bill

The Central Bank of Sudan (CBoS) issued its statistical report on foreign trade for the first half of 2025, covering the period from January to June, which showed the continued trade balance deficit as a result of the large gap between exports and imports.

According to the report, the value of Sudanese exports during this period amounted to about 1.354 billion dollars, with gold topping the list as the highest export commodity, generating revenues of 883.5 million dollars.

In contrast, imports recorded a significant increase, amounting to 2.641 billion dollars, with wheat leading the list of imported commodities at a value of 789.496 million dollars, reflecting the extent of reliance on abroad to provide essential food commodities.

When comparing these figures with last year 2024, it is clear that export values were higher, amounting to 3.134 billion dollars, while imports reached 4.911 billion dollars, indicating a decline in export performance and an increase in the import bill during the current year.
