AU opposes and rejects any UAE “interference” in Sudan’s internal affairs

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) confirmed on Monday that the bloc opposes any “interference in the internal affairs of Sudan,” which is indulged in a bloody war. This follows accusations that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is supplying weapons to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in its war against the army.

Last week, the Sudanese government, which is affiliated with the military, announced the severing of diplomatic relations with the UAE, accusing it of supplying advanced weapons to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.

African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said, during a press conference in Addis Ababa, that “the Commission’s position is that member states are sovereign states, and the African Union Commission will not accept any interference in Sudan’s internal affairs.”

He stressed, “We will not support any action or interference in the crisis in Sudan.”

The Former Foreign Minister of Djibouti, who was elected chairperson of the African Union Commission in February, avoided discussing UAE interference, saying it was “not the role of the African Union” to confirm this.

He explained that “Sudan is the one who accused the UAE, and it must provide evidence.”
