Former Sudanese Military Official Denies Joining RSF Alliance

Sudanese Echoes – Former Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration of ‎the Sudanese Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Monawar Osman ‎Nogud, has denied reports circulating about his joining the Janjaweed ‎alliance led by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.‎

In an audio recording obtained by Ultra Sudan, Monawar said that the ‎rumours being circulated by the RSF’s media rooms were “completely ‎unfounded.”‎

‎“I heard the rumour spread by the militia and its supporters about my ‎joining the militia alliance, and this is not true,” he said.‎
He added: “Everyone in the armed forces knows how hostile I am ‎towards these people, particularly Abdel Rahim Dagalo and his brother ‎Hemedti, who owe their attainment of these ranks solely to ‎circumstances that favoured them after they formed the militia.”‎

Monawar stressed that when he was referred to retirement, he was ‎entirely satisfied with the armed forces and that he currently considers ‎himself a soldier under its command.‎
‎“The armed forces are the only national institution that brings ‎together all segments of Sudanese society. I could never utter a single ‎word against it, let alone join an institution made up of agents and ‎mercenaries who have neither a say nor authority over what is ‎happening,” he said.‎

Lieutenant General Monawar Osman Nogud was referred to ‎retirement in August 2022 by a decision of President of the ‎Transitional Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, as part of a ‎list that included several prominent generals.‎

Monawar’s denial comes as the RSF has stepped up announcements of ‎former military and civilian figures joining its ranks.‎
