Seven Ethiopian Armed Groups Form Alliance to Overthrow Abiy Ahmed
Seven prominent armed groups and opposition movements in Ethiopia have announced the formation of a broad political and military alliance under the name “Ethiopian People’s Forces for Cooperation for Survival,” with the aim of overthrowing the existing federal system led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and forming an inclusive transitional government.
The seven groups signed a joint statement affirming their commitment to removing the current regime and managing the next phase through a transitional charter that guarantees the protection of human rights and democracy for all Ethiopian components and peoples without exclusion.
The new alliance comprises major factions and movements representing various Ethiopian regions: Amhara Fano National Movement, Oromo Liberation Army, Tigray People’s Liberation Front, Ogaden National Liberation Front, Afar Revolutionary Front for National Unity, Benishangul Peoples Liberation Movement, and Gumuz Democratic Peoples Movement.
