RSF Militia Leadership Turns to Captagon as Substitute for Salaries
Local sources and multiple reports have revealed a sharp rise in drug trafficking activities in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, amid growing accusations that the militia is using narcotics as a tool for control and financing.
Reports from several fronts indicated that the militia leadership has recently resorted to distributing Captagon pills and other psychoactive substances to its fighters on the front lines as a substitute for financial entitlements and salaries, or as a means of encouraging them to continue fighting and overcome fatigue and psychological distress resulting from ongoing battles.
Meanwhile, security experts and civil society organizations have warned of what they described as a systematic strategy by the militia to flood local markets and areas populated by young people with smuggled shipments, with the aim of damaging the social fabric and generating quick financial gains to fund its military operations amid increasing international pressure and the drying up of its traditional supply channels.
