Al-Kormuk Liberation Is Imminent

Heavy fighting is underway between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on the outskirts of Al-Kormuk in southeastern Blue Nile Region, as the army announced fresh losses in personnel and equipment among Dagalo’s forces.

Military sources told Al Jazeera that the army is nearing full control of Al-Kormuk after troops advanced to Al-Zariba area, located about two kilometers from the city.

In a press statement, the SAF’s Fourth Infantry Division said it had launched a new strike against RSF positions in Al-Zariba, killing seven RSF fighters and wounding four others.

The division added that RSF forces transferred the wounded to the Ethiopian city of Assosa, noting that the losses came as part of continued strikes aimed at restricting the militia’s movements.

The Sudanese Armed Forces had earlier announced control over areas on the outskirts of Al-Kormuk, saying their forces were now “within striking distance” of the city, which the RSF seized at the end of last March.

The Fourth Infantry Division stressed that it would not “lay down its weapons” before recapturing all territories seized by the RSF and securing the shared borders with Ethiopia and South Sudan.
