Sudan’s Central Bank Resumes Operations in Khartoum After Nearly Three-Year Halt

The Central Bank of Sudan (CBOS) announced on Tuesday the resumption of its activities in the capital, Khartoum, following a nearly three-year suspension due to ongoing conflict.

During the war, the CBOS was subjected to extensive plundering and destruction, affecting its headquarters and branches in Khartoum and other states, in addition to damage to ATMs, banking systems, and servers.

Addressing staff, Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Amina Mirghani Hassan, stated that the bank’s return to Khartoum marks a step toward national recovery and reconstruction. She highlighted the significant role played by the bank’s employees in maintaining state functions during the conflict, while emphasizing that the task of rebuilding the country remains ongoing.

The bank is scheduled to officially reopen in Khartoum on Wednesday, in the presence of government officials.

Governor Mirghani, who led the delegation of returning staff, described the return of the Central Bank and the broader banking sector as a revival of the lifeblood of the national economy.
