Sudan Army Repels Fiercest Attack on Babanousa in West Kordofan
As clashes renewed between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the city of Babanousa in West Kordofan, central Sudan, Al Arabiya/Al Hadath’s correspondent reported on Sunday that the army had succeeded to repel the fiercest attack on the city to date.
He added that the Sudanese army also thwarted an RSF assault targeting the headquarters of the 22nd Infantry Division.
Earlier today, Saturday, field sources said the RSF militia continued its artillery shelling around the 22nd Division, targeting the army’s defensive positions as part of its efforts to soften those defenses and break the siege around the division.
The sources added that the militia is massing forces around Babanousa in preparation for a ground assault to seize the city, which is considered the army’s last remaining stronghold in West Kordofan.
In response, the army has deployed new forces to the Kordofan fronts — including special operations units and mobile forces — in preparation for launching counterattacks, recapturing Bara northeast of El-Obeid (the capital of North Kordofan), and advancing south and west toward Al-Hamadi and Al-Debaibat.
