Khartoum State Wali to Citizens: We Can’t Rebuild Alone… Omdurman to Say Goodbye to Power Outages Soon

Khartoum State Wali (governor) Ahmed Osman Hamza has called on Khartoum residents to return to their homes and contribute to the state government’s reconstruction. He said that the government alone would not be able to rebuild Khartoum, and that concerted efforts between citizens and the government are necessary.
The Wali confirmed, during an interview with the BBC, that Khartoum has become completely safe, that police have deployed in most areas, and that security breaches are now few and controlable. He added that his government, in collaboration with the police, security services, and citizens, would form community security committees and provide them with weapons to protect their areas and homes. Hamza added that the scale of the devastation and destruction is extensive, saying, “We have made great efforts to prepare the conditions for people to return, and there are good news to come.” He pointed out that the greater city of Omdurman would bid farewell to its power outages very soon, and that work is continuing in Khartoum and Bahri to provide water and electricity. Operations are also underway to remove informal settlements, as they have become crime dens and storage areas for citizens’ loot, pledging to continue removing all informal settlements in the capital.
