The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Ambassador Dr. Ali Yousuf Ahmed Al-Sharif, who recently took helm of the ministry, has begun to carry out shuttle movements to clarify the facts to the international community and expose the practices of the terrorist Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and its sponsors, as some circles view the armed forces (SAF) and the rebel RSF militia as two parties fighting for power, which encouraged the outlaw militia to continue its crimes.
Foreign Minister confirmed to (SUNA) that this period will witness serious diplomatic movements at all external levels with the aim of explaining what is happening in Sudan to gain the support of the international community for the positions of the government and the venerable military institution supported by all segments of the Sudanese people. It will also work to support and develop Sudan’s foreign relations, especially with neighboring African countries.
Dr. Al-Sharif had met in his first foreign mission with the Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel-Ati, where they agreed on the necessity for coordination regarding the core issues of concern to the two countries. The Egyptian Foreign Minister affirmed Egypt’s firm position in supporting and backing Sudan and preserving its institutions because it is the sole guarantor of the country’s unity.
Ambassador Dr. Al-Sharif appreciated Egypt’s clear and supportive position towards Sudan. He also discussed, during his meeting with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, ways to enhance cooperation between Sudan and the General Secretariat of the League and ways to consolidate the role of the Arab League in supporting Sudan’s position.
The Minister led the Sudanese delegation to the preparatory meeting of the foreign ministers for the Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh and held meetings with a number of his participating counterparts, where he briefed them on the facts of the situation in the country. He met with the Syrian Foreign Minister, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, where they agreed to raise the level of diplomatic representation and form a committee for political consultation between the two countries. On the sidelines of the summit, he met with the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, who affirmed the continuation of Saudi support for Sudan. The two ministers also agreed on joint coordination on all regional and international issues.
The Foreign Minister also met with his Somali counterpart, the head of the Qatari delegation, and a number of his counterparts participating in the meeting.
The Foreign Minister participated in the Climate Change Summit held recently in Azerbaijan and met with a number of participating foreign ministers.
Minster of Foreign Affairs will hold talks tomorrow, Sunday, with the US Special Envoy to Sudan, Mr. Tom Perriello, who described, in a statement, the government’s recent decisions to renew the opening of the Adre crossing as important to accelerate the delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of Sudan. This statement came within a number of statements that reflect the positive shift in the US position, as US House of Representatives member Sarah Jacobs had condemned the rebel militia’s killing of civilians by poisoning them in Al-Gezira State, describing it as a shameful crime, calling for the militia and its supporters, most notably the UAE, be held accountable.
