14 civilians killed and injured by Al-Dagalo drone missile in a town near Sudanese-Chadian border
Local sources said on Saturday that at least nine civilians were killed in a drone strike on a community gathering in the town of Tina, North Darfur State.
Tina, located on the border between Sudan and Chad, is home to tens of thousands of displaced people (IDPs) who fled areas attacked by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, including El-Fashir.
Local sources told Sudan Tribune that “a strategic RSF militia drone fired missiles during a meeting of community leaders and a number of citizens in the town of Tina, killing nine civilians and wounding five others.”
The sources indicated that the bombing, which took place on Thursday, completely destroyed the headquarters of the former United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in the town.
Tina is one of three localities in North Darfur State bordering Chad and under the control of the army and its allied armed movements.
The bombing of the town came amid serious fears of an expected attack by the RSF militia on the area, the only crossing point in Darfur not under its control.
At the end of last year, the RSF militia and allied militias launched retaliatory attacks on villages inhabited by the Zaghawa ethnic group in Kutum Locality in North Darfur State. More than 45 villages were burned, forcing their residents to flee to Chad.
