Warplanes Fly Over Nyala as Heavy Explosions Rock the City

Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, awoke on Tuesday to the sound of heavy, successive explosions that shook various parts of the city following swift airstrikes carried out by the Sudanese Army’s Air Force.

Eyewitnesses and local sources confirmed that warplanes conducted sudden sorties over Nyala, while the sound of ground-based anti-aircraft fire was heard as it attempted to intercept them. Columns of smoke rose from several locations immediately after the airstrikes.

No official figures have so far been released on the extent of the casualties or damage resulting from the morning attacks.
