US Congress Pressures Biden to Punish the UAE

The American newspaper “Politico” revealed that US officials, lawmakers, and human rights defenders are increasingly frustrated with President Joe Biden’s failure to punish the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for transferring weapons to a militia accused of committing genocide in Sudan.

The American newspaper “Politico” disclosed that two US Congressmen (Chris Van Hollen and Sarah Jacobs) sent a new letter to US President Biden about a bill to ban arms sales to the UAE.

(Holen and Sarah) said, in their letter to Biden, that they know that he has imposed sanctions on senior leaders in the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia due to the atrocities committed, but you have not yet used the full influence available to hold the UAE, the militia’s main supporter, accountable.

A senior US official told the newspaper, “We are adept at exposing Russia’s atrocities in Ukraine, and when it comes to Sudan, we are content to point our finger behind the scenes.”

The official added, “It is embarrassing to see this double standard from the inside.”

The White House and State Department did not respond to a request for comment from the newspaper. The UAE embassy in Washington also did not respond to a request for comment.
