UN Allocates New Funding to Combat Cholera in Sudan
United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher has announced the allocation of $5 million to support response efforts to the cholera outbreak in Sudan.
The Sudanese Ministry of Health has recorded 84,000 cholera cases and 2,100 associated deaths since the cholera outbreak began in July 2024, with more than 33,000 cases recorded in 2025 alone.
Fletcher noted that the new funding would enable the United Nations to scale up its vital activities in health, water, sanitation, and hygiene to limit the spread of the disease.
