Umma Party Urges Prime Minister, Darfur Movements to Make Concessions to Form Government

Leaderships from the National Umma Party (NUP) has held extensive consultations with a number of political and executive leaderships in Sudan, led by Prime Minister Kamil Idris and leaderships of the Darfur peace movements, to bring together viewpoints on the stalled cabinet formation process.

NUP Deputy Chairman Lt. Gen. Siddig Ismail urged the formation of Prime Minister Kamil Idris’s government, calling for support for the formation of the government and rallying behind it, which he described as a genuine beginning toward democratic transformation.

Siddig told Asharq, “We hope that all Sudanese will support this formation, as it represents the beginning of a truly democratic path. The delay in forming the government is one of the reasons that prompted us to intervene, given the conflict we have observed between the parties.” He added that the NUP has communicated with all parties, including the Prime Minister and the armed movements, to urge them to make mutual concessions and agree on a government of competent individuals who are sensitive to the suffering of the people. He warned, “If we fail to form a government with these specifications, we will remain trapped in a cycle of conflict and struggle for power, far removed from the aspirations of the Sudanese street.”
