Trump: US funded the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.. I don’t know why?

US President Donald Trump said he believed a solution can be reached regarding the Nile River issue, noting that the issue is extremely sensitive.

Trump added, in statements made on Monday during a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House, “The United States funded the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and I don’t know why?.”

He pointed out that the dam has caused problems between Egypt and Ethiopia in recent years and affects the downstream countries’ share of the water flow, especially during drought.

He said, “Also, regarding Egypt and its neighbors, mainly with respect to the dam and the dispute over the Nile waters, we will work to resolve the issue between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia.”

He continued, “We hope that this crisis does not escalate and that this dispute is resolved. The water issue is very important and sensitive, and it is the source of life for Egypt, and I believe that we will resolve it soon.”
