Tough New Law Targets Gold-Smuggling Networks
The technical committees of the ministerial sectors, meeting jointly under the chairmanship of Ministry of Defence Secretary-General General Ahmed Salih Ahmed Aboud, approved the Draft Miscellaneous Amendments Act of 2026, paving the way for its submission to the Council of Ministers for final approval.
The meeting stressed the need to enforce laws in a manner that upholds the authority of the state in addressing the smuggling of precious minerals, particularly gold, as well as commodities that harm the national economy. It also underscored the importance of providing legal protection to regular forces engaged in anti-smuggling operations.
The meeting further emphasized the need to activate legislation governing information technology and publication through media platforms that adversely affect the state and its sovereignty and undermine social cohesion. Participants also reaffirmed the importance of protecting and safeguarding human life.
