Top Militia Leaders Flee with Families to Uganda and South Sudan

Local sources reported that the city of Al‑Daein in East Darfur is witnessing an alarming surge in mass population flight. The sources indicated that dozens of families belonging to prominent figures and leaders of the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia abruptly left the city, heading toward the capitals of South Sudan and Uganda, Juba and Kampala.

Reports from Al‑Daein also confirmed a rise in systematic kidnappings targeting residents and merchants, with public negotiations reportedly taking place to secure the release of hostages in exchange for hefty ransoms.

Sources noted that the militia appears completely unable to curb these abuses or control rogue elements, leaving the city trapped in a spiral of ongoing chaos and harmful practices that threaten the remnants of local stability. Militia members are accused of direct involvement in extortion schemes and of promoting violent rhetoric to cover up their failure to manage the areas under their control.
