Thousands of IDPs in Kauda Without Food Amid Fears of Humanitarian Catastrophe

Thousands of displaced persons (IDPs) from the Atoro area in zones controlled by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N), led by Abdelaziz Al-Hilu, are facing worsening humanitarian conditions following recent waves of displacement triggered by armed clashes, amid warnings of deteriorating living and health conditions due to severe shortages of food, medicine, and shelter.

Sources in Kauda told Darfur24 that the humanitarian situation for displaced residents from Atoro villages has reached a critical stage, with many forced to take shelter under trees due to the absence of displacement camps and insufficient aid.

The available stocks of food and medicines are reported to be extremely limited and nearing depletion, particularly medications for chronic illnesses, as well as food supplies for children and the elderly, raising concerns of a looming humanitarian catastrophe if conditions persist.

The sources added that most villages in the area were burned during clashes with the Sudan People’s Liberation Army, leading to the displacement of more than 5,000 people. The majority have reportedly moved toward Luwairi, west of Kauda, and Kujar in central Atoro.
