They are not Two Parties
Abdel-Azim Awad
The statements of the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdel-Atti, came to reaffirm the strong Egyptian position towards the situation in Sudan, supporting the legitimacy of the Sudanese state institutions, particularly the Sudanese Armed Forces. The Egyptian Minister expressed Cairo’s reservations about the status of the Sudanese army as a party in the face of other parties in the current war, referring to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Militia. This is not the first time that Dr. Abdel-Atti, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, has announced Egypt’s unlimited support for the Sudanese state as it faces the current war. His Excellency confirmed this on the second day of his swearing-in as Minister of Foreign Affairs in his speech to the Sudanese conference that Cairo had previously called for last April to address the Sudanese crisis. His Excellency has always emphasized this position, which reflects Egypt’s awareness and understanding of the dimensions of the crisis and the conditions that Sudan is currently experiencing. However, Minister Abdel-Atti’s statement this time came at the awake of talks with his American counterpart in which the Sudanese crisis was a major topic, and during the joint press conference between them following those talks.
The insistence of some on calling the war “two parties”, in reference to the current war in Sudan, including the United States of America and other countries that are moving within the framework of addressing the Sudanese crisis, is a violation of the facts of the situation on the ground. These facts are that a group that was affiliated with the Sudanese Armed Forces declared a rebellion against it and against legitimacy, and tried to seize power by force and eliminate the national army that is constitutionally and legally entrusted with defending Sudan and its people and protecting its lands..!
The statements of His Excellency the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration with such clarity, which he mentioned before the American Secretary of State Blinken, should be viewed as a clear message to those seeking to end the war in Sudan, that it is not a war between (two parties) and that the Sudanese state, with its valiant army and noble people, is not a party and should not be so.
