Sudan’s Police: (Hamdok) government banned issuance of passports to barred persons

President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, met on Sunday with the Director General of Police Forces, General (Police) Khalid Hassan Mohi El-Din, in the presence of the Director General of Passport Directorate, Maj. Gen. (Police), Osman Mohamed Al-Hassan Dinkawi.

Maj. Gen. Dinkawi confirmed that every person holding a national number has the right to obtain a passport without any political affiliation unless there is a legal ban issued by the competent authorities. He added that before 2020, the legal ban allowed citizens to obtain a passport as an identity document inside and outside the country, pointing out that an amendment was issued to the lists regulation in 2020 during the (Hamdok) government stipulating that the competent authority must not issue any passport to any Sudanese who has been included in the ban lists, thus the person banned by law is prohibited from obtaining a passport as a travel document and not an identity credential.
