Sudan’s Oil Minister Reveals Extent of Disaster at Khartoum Refinery

 

Minister of Energy and Oil, Dr. Mohi El-Din Naeem, revealed that the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) confirmed, during his recent visit to China, accompanying President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, its readiness and preparedness to inspect the refinery after the war for reconstruction.

 

 

This came during his visit, Tuesday, to the Khartoum Refinery after its liberation from the militia.
The minister was received by the Director General of the Khartoum Refinery, Eng. Alaa El-Din, and a number of engineers and technicians.

 

 

Dr. Naeem explained the extent of the vandalization, indicating that several units inside the refinery were damaged, underscoring the loss of approximately 700,000 barrels of diesel oil, equivalent to the load of a ship. He said “Despite the huge losses, we found the workers very enthusiastic about rebuilding as quickly as possible.”
The Minister directed the engineering and technical teams to speed up the process of maintenance and rehabilitation operations for early completion so that the refinery would be ready to resume work in the near future.
For his part, the Director General of the Refinery gave a comprehensive presentation in which he explained the extent of the losses inficted on the refinery and its main units, stressing that this destruction was systematic and requires a lot to restore the refinery to its former state, stating that this will only be achieved with determination and persistence and the efforts of its people.
