Sudan’s Health Minister: Dengue Fever Spreads Rapidly, Mortality Rate Low

Sudanese Health Minister Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim revealed a significant spread of dengue fever amid a state of panic among patients, but reassured everyone that the disease is declining, the mortality rate does not exceed 0.2%, and more than 80% of cases can be treated at home.

In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera Net, the Sudanese minister stated that the war has led to a greater spread of dengue and malaria due to the vandalization, particularly in the capital, Khartoum, as a result of devastated water sources and homes, accumulation of rubble and car wreckage, and the growth of a lot of grasses and small trees in some areas, which increases the population of disease-carrying mosquitoes and makes them difficult to control.

He denied any failure by health authorities to contain the disease and confirmed that there is no shortage of medicines, noting a relative abundance of drugs and intravenous fluids. However, a state of panic and fear led some patients to search for paracetamol solutions, which quickly ran out in private pharmacies, although they remained available for patients in hospitals.
