Sudan’s Army Aircraft Evacuate Dozens of Families Trapped by Gash River Floods

The Sudanese Air Force today carried out air evacuation operations for citizens trapped by the Gash River floodwaters in several villages in Kassala State, after water levels rose to unprecedented rates in the past few hours.

Local sources reported that military aircraft transported dozens of families to safe areas, as floodwaters continued to flow into low-lying villages. Emergency teams continued their efforts to deliver food and medical aid to those stranded.

For their part, local authorities in Kassala confirmed that the state’s emergency Chamber has been working to identify the most affected villages and organize further air sorties in the coming days.
