Sudanese Police Recover Escaped Prisoners

The Director General of Prison Forces, Lt. Gen. Yassir Omar Abu Zeid, has revealed that his forces were able to recover a number of escaped prisoners from Sudanese prisons following the outbreak of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) rebellion on April 15, 2023; after which Al-Dagalo militia released all prisoners, estimated at approximately 19,000, a large number of whom were recruited into the militia’s ranks.

Interior Minister Lt. Gen. (Police) Babiker Samra Mustafa inspected the Prison Forces headquarters on Sunday and chaired a meeting of the Prison Forces Command.

During the meeting, he received a detailed briefing from the Director General of Prison Forces, covering the general situation of prisons and their correctional facilities, as well as the ongoing efforts to improve the prison environment and ensure compliance with international and national laws.
