Sudanese Government Requests Rescheduling of Turkish Debts

Sudan’s Prime Minister Kamil Idris met on Saturday at Istanbul International Airport with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Musa Kullal Kaya while en route to New York to attend key United Nations meetings. Deputy Minister Kaya conveyed greetings from Turkey’s top political leadership.

Attending the meeting alongside Prime Minister Idris were his advisers, Sudan’s Ambassador to Ankara, the Consul General, and a senior technical adviser. On the Turkish side, the delegation included Ahmed Yildiz, Turkey’s Permanent Representative in New York, and Ali Olunar, Director of the African Affairs Directorate at the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Prime Minister Idris praised President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his team, describing him as an inspiring national leader, and requested that the Sudanese people’s gratitude be conveyed for the significant support provided by Turkey’s leadership and people to Sudan during the ongoing war.

Idris also invited the Turkish government to invest in and join the Sudan-Qatar-Turkey trilateral partnership in Al-Hawad agricultural project, one of Sudan’s largest agricultural initiatives. He further highlighted opportunities in the new international airport, the administrative capital, new medical cities, and youth housing projects, while calling for the rescheduling of Sudan’s outstanding debts to Turkey.

Deputy Foreign Minister Kaya noted that meetings of the joint economic committee between the two countries would be held soon. He also proposed upgrading the high-level committee to be co-chaired by Prime Minister Idris for Sudan and Vice President Guldut Yilmaz for Turkey, stressing the importance of enhanced communication between the private sectors of the two brotherly nations.
