Sudan: National Judiciary Qualified to Deliver Justice and Prevent Impunity
The Attorney General, Intisar Ahmed Abdul Aal, held a meeting with the President of the Human Rights Council, Siddhartho Surya De Boro, and senior assistants, during which she reviewed the main contents of the fifth interim report on the work of the national committee and the investigations and judicial procedures it has undertaken.
She affirmed in this context that the national judiciary is qualified, willing, and capable of achieving justice, ensuring redress for victims, and preventing impunity in accordance with full standards of independence and integrity. She also called for the application of the principle of complementarity through support and backing for ongoing national efforts.
For his part, the President of the Human Rights Council said he is following the work of the national committee through its reports and statements to the Human Rights Council. He referred to the ongoing cooperation between the Government of Sudan and the country office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as its cooperation with the appointed expert.
He also addressed the atrocities, violations, and humanitarian conditions, expressing hope that Sudan will regain its security and stability.
