Security Forces Deployed to Al-Rataj in Halayib Following Security Breakdown
Authorities have deployed military forces to the Al-Rataj area in Halayib locality, Red Sea State, eastern Sudan, following a serious security breakdown, according to official sources.
Social media platforms were widely engaged on Wednesday in discussions about the ongoing events in Al-Rataj, amid circulating reports concerning the rights of local communities in the area, described as “hawakeer” (tribal lands) historically linked to them since the British colonial period along the Red Sea coast.
The Security Committee of the Red Sea State announced in an emergency meeting, held on Wednesday according to a press statement issued from the office of the Wali, that it had discussed recent incidents and violations in Al-Rataj, Halayib locality.
The emergency meeting decided to immediately deploy security forces to the area, arrest violators, and take necessary legal measures against them in order to enforce the law and assert state authority.
