Security Council rejects Janjaweed government and warns against attack on Al-Obeid

The UN Security Council on Saturday called on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia to immediately stop its offensive on Al-Obeid, expressing deep concern over the imminent risk of mass atrocities.

In a statement, Council members voiced grave concern over reports of large-scale RSF military reinforcements around the city.

They also expressed concern over reported drone strikes in Al-Obeid and the wider escalation of such attacks across Sudan by the warring parties.

The Council reiterated the need for all parties to protect civilians and comply with their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, and to adhere to commitments under the Jeddah Declaration.

Members further urged all UN member states to refrain from any external interference that could fuel conflict and instability, and to support efforts toward a lasting peace, in line with international obligations and relevant Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2791 (2025).

The Council reaffirmed its strong commitment to Sudan’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity, and rejected the establishment of any parallel governing authority in RSF-controlled areas.
