Saudi Arabia to Undertake 10 Major Economic Projects in Sudan

The Saudi newspaper Al Eqtisadiah has revealed ongoing preparations for the signing of an agreement to establish the Sudan-Saudi Council for Cooperation and Strategic Coordination, encompassing 10 major economic projects and files. The agreement is scheduled to be signed on August 17, in the presence of the foreign ministers of the two countries and officials responsible for investment, economic and trade sectors.

A Sudanese diplomatic source said the agreement represents an advanced step toward establishing a higher-level institutional framework bringing political, economic, investment and security issues together under one umbrella, and shifting cooperation from political and humanitarian support toward a long-term economic partnership, based on the understandings reached during the meeting between Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan in Makkah in May 2025.

The 10 areas covered by the agreement include Sudan’s reconstruction; agriculture and food security; livestock; gold and mining; the Red Sea and ports; energy and electricity; finance and banking; industry and food processing; telecommunications and digital transformation; as well as tourism, real estate and services.

This would make the council the highest-level mechanism for managing the various tracks of bilateral relations amid the ongoing transformations in the Red Sea region and the Horn of Africa.
