RSF militia Drones Disrupt Juba Oil Exports via Portsudan

The Sudanese Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has informed the government of South Sudan of the possibility of taking an urgent decision to shut down the “Petco” oil pipeline, the main artery for exporting South Sudanese crude through Sudanese territory, in light of the ongoing military attacks targeting oil infrastructure.

The Undersecretary of the Sudanese Ministry of Energy and Oil, Muhieddin Naeem, sent a letter to the Undersecretary of the South Sudanese Ministry of Petroleum, Deng Lual Wol.

Khartoum held the RSF militia responsible for the attacks, noting its use of drones to target vital oil facilities.
The letter confirmed that one of the most serious of these attacks occurred at dawn on May 9, 2025, targeting Pumping Station No. 5 in the Al-Hudi area, causing extensive damage that threatens to completely disrupt export operations.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil pointed out that these attacks not only damaged production and transportation facilities, but also inflicted heavy losses on the Sudanese and South Sudanese economies and impacted foreign investors due to the prolonged shutdown of production and the costs of restarting. The Ministry explained that it had issued urgent directives to the companies “Petco” and “Bapco” to prepare a rapid emergency plan to shut down the facilities. This plan will be implemented unless the attacks, which threaten the safety of the facilities and hinder Sudan’s obligations under the joint cooperation agreements, cease.
