RSF Militia Detains Thousands of Civilians in El-Fashir and Prevents Their Exit
The Sudan Doctors Network reported that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia continues to hold thousands of civilians inside the city of El-Fashir, preventing them from leaving after seizing all available means of transport used for evacuating displaced residents.
In a statement on Sunday evening, the network’s spokesperson, Dr. Ahmed Al-Nour, said that the RSF militia forcibly returned a number of those who tried to flee, including individuals wounded by gunfire during their escape attempts and others suffering from malnutrition.
He warned that “the continued detention of such a large number of civilians amid extremely dire humanitarian conditions, a severe shortage of medicines, and the lack of medical personnel—some of whom remain detained by the RSF militia while others are abducted by its elements—constitutes an escalating humanitarian catastrophe.”
The network called for the immediate release of all civilians, the opening of safe corridors for their evacuation, and the urgent facilitation of humanitarian organizations’ efforts to bury bodies scattered on the city’s outskirts, which pose a serious environmental hazard.
