Qatar’s Emir “Shocked” by Atrocities Committed by Janjaweed in El-Fashir
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has condemned the atrocities witnessed in the city of El-Fashir in the Darfur region, expressing his shock at their scale and brutality.
Speaking at the opening session of the Second World Summit on Social Development held in Doha on Tuesday, Sheikh Tamim said:“We are all shocked by the magnitude of the atrocities committed in the city of El-Fashir in Darfur, Sudan, and we strongly condemn them.”
He questioned: “Did we need any further evidence that ignoring violations of states’ security, sovereignty, and stability, and turning a blind eye to civil wars and their atrocities, must inevitably lead to such shocks?”
The Emir, according to Altarra Sudan, affirmed that Sudan has endured the horrors of this war for two and a half years, stressing that the time has come to end it and reach a political solution “that ensures the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan.”
