Prominent Militia General Killed in Fighting Near El Geneina

Mahdi “Jabal Moon”, the commander of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) operations in northern El Geneina, West Darfur State, was killed on Tuesday during intense fighting with the Joint Force allied with the Sudanese Armed Forces.

Heavy clashes erupted earlier in the day in the Hajar Marfaein and Bir Saliba areas, north of El Geneina, amid conflicting accounts over the territorial situation on the ground.

Minni Arko Minnawi, leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement and General Supervisor of the Joint Force, said in a Facebook post that the Joint Force achieved a battlefield victory during Tuesday’s fighting that resulted in the killing of Major General Mahdi “Jabal Moon,” describing it as another setback for the RSF.

Platforms affiliated with the RSF also announced the death of Mahdi “Jabal Moon,” confirming that he was killed during the fighting north of El Geneina.
Mahdi “Jabal Moon” was regarded as one of the RSF’s most prominent field commanders. Following his recent promotion to the rank of Major General, he assumed command of Group 128 and had previously served as commander of the RSF’s artillery forces during the militia’s deployment in Khartoum.
