Prime Minister: No Forced Return of Sudanese from Egypt… Orders Issued to Release Sudanese Prisoners in Egyptian Prisons

Prime Minister Kamil Idris affirmed that there is no plan for the forced return of Sudanese residents in Egypt, stressing that “forced return has no place in Sudanese–Egyptian relations,” and that returning to the country remains available and voluntary through all official and community channels.

He noted, during a press conference held today at Khartoum International Airport, that an agreement was reached to address the situation of Sudanese students in Egypt and regularize their status, in addition to reaching an understanding regarding the release of Sudanese prisoners there.

The Prime Minister added that an agreement was also reached to expand electricity interconnection between the two countries, in light of the voluntary return of citizens to Khartoum and the states, explaining that the discussions included an in-depth review of the Nile water file and the Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD).
