New Military Reinforcements Arrive in Blue Nile

The Sudanese Armed Forces said Tuesday that advance units of the Joint Force of armed movements allied with the army had arrived in Damazin to take part in fighting against an alliance of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).

Since February, fighting has intensified in the Blue Nile region in southeastern Sudan, where the rebel alliance has taken control of the towns of Al-Kormuk and Geisan, both near the Ethiopian border.

Last week, the RSF-SPLM-N alliance announced that it had seized the strategic Bakouri and Sarkam military bases in the Geisan and Al- Kormuk localities.

In a press statement on Tuesday, the Sudanese Armed Forces said they had deployed new military reinforcements to the Blue Nile region.

The army said reinforcements from the Joint Force of armed movements allied with the Sudanese Armed Forces had arrived in Damazin as part of efforts to clear the Blue Nile region of rebel forces.

Commander of the Fourth Infantry Division, Major General Ismail Al-Tayeb, said his forces were fully prepared to continue their operations, stressing that the rebellion was sustaining successive and painful blows across various fronts.

“The end of the rebellion is drawing near, and the Armed Forces are moving forward with determination and resolve until the entire Blue Nile region is fully secured,” Al-Tayeb said.

The latest deployment marks the second round of military reinforcements sent to the region within a week, following advances by the RSF-SPLM-N alliance on several fronts across the Blue Nile region.
