New Details on the Quartet Meetings on Sudan in Washington
Senior Sudanese political sources said that the Quartet meeting scheduled for Washington at the end of the month is exploratory, aiming to exchange ideas between the US administration, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt regarding their vision for dealing with the Sudanese conflict.
The sources added, according to Asharq Al-Awsat, that “it is too early to discuss any definitive results that the meeting may reach, but it will undoubtedly address the legitimate concerns and fears of regional countries regarding the repercussions of prolonging the war.
At the same time, its outcomes may include explicit and strong messages, without ambiguity, outlining a roadmap for ending it.”
They reported that the Sudanese war has risen to the top of the US administration’s priorities, according to what the advisor quoted from President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
These positions indicate indications of a consensus being reached to conclude an agreement that includes a ceasefire. The same sources indicated that “it is difficult to raise expectations or be overly optimistic before the meeting, but if President Trump wants to force an opportunity to conclude a final peace deal between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, he will be very firm in reaching it and obligating both parties to it.”
