More Than 10,000 Malaria Cases and 52 Scabies Infections Reported in Khartoum
The Khartoum State Ministry of Health reported more than 10,000 malaria infections and 52 scabies cases across the state, according to figures presented during a meeting of the Emergency Operations Centre reviewing the epidemiological situation in all seven localities.
The meeting was chaired by the Director-General of Emergencies and Epidemics, Mohamed Al-Tijani, and attended by general and specialized department directors, along with partners from national and international organizations.
Participants reviewed the epidemiological status by locality, key impediments facing the health sector, and ongoing intervention efforts to stabilize public health conditions, as well as continuing measures to confront the war’s impact on the health system. The meeting also examined last week’s reports issued by the departments of emergencies and epidemics, health promotion, preventive medicine, and primary healthcare.
The epidemiological report for week six of 2026 recorded a rise in malaria cases, reaching 10,361 infections, in addition to 467 dengue fever cases. It also documented 52 scabies infections concentrated in Karari and East Nile localities, along with 52 reported animal-bite incidents.
The report cautioned against an increase in childhood diseases, particularly cough-related illnesses and measles. A separate immunization department report disclosed shortages in vaccine cold-chain systems used for storing vaccines, attributing the deficit to looting and systematic sabotage carried out by the rebel militia against health centres.
