Militia augments orphans’ number in Sudan

A journalistic investigation by (Sudanese Echoes) – to be published later – revealed that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia caused an increase in the number of orphans in Sudan as a result of killing and liquidating their fathers and mothers.

 

The journalistic investigation warned that this new reality will have serious and destructive social and economic repercussions for the psychology of orphaned children, whose number is estimated as thousands, in accordance with documented statistics from some organizations active in the field of childhood.

 

Due to a United Nations statistic obtained by the newspaper, the United Nations documented serious violations by the militia against 2,168 civilians in just one month of fighting, including about 1,525 children who were killed and mutilated by amputating their limbs, and about 643 young children under the age of 18 who were forced by the militia to join the fighting alongside its fighters, most of whom died in the fighting.
