“Medicine Mafia”: 86,000 IV Bags of Paracetamol Seized in Potato Storage Freezer in Omdurman

The Joint Security Cell in Karari Sector, Omdurman, announced the seizure of a criminal network involved in selling paracetamol IV (intravenous) bags outside the official medical framework, in one of the largest recent operations against illicit drug trafficking.

Authorities confiscated 8,622 cartons containing more than 86,000 paracetamol IV bags, which had been stored inside a freezer designed for preserving potatoes, in an attempt by the network to conceal its activities from regulatory oversight.

The Cell affirmed that the operation is part of its ongoing efforts to combat the illegal trade in medicines and to protect citizens’ health from the dangers posed by unregulated medical products. It added that the suspects have been arrested pending legal proceedings.

Security authorities warned against the growing phenomenon of smuggling and distributing medicines outside official channels, stressing the serious health risks, urging citizens to verify the sources of their medicines and avoid dealings with the black market.
