Measles Outbreak Spreads in North Darfur Amid Collapse of Vaccination Services

The General Coordination for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Refugees in Darfur reported a worrying surge in measles cases in North Darfur State, amid a severe shortage of medicines and deteriorating healthcare services.

The outbreak coincides with an unprecedented decline in healthcare provision across the region, as ongoing conflict has disrupted vaccination programmes and forced many health facilities to shut down.

Spokesperson Adam Regal told Sudan Tribune that monitoring teams recorded more than 50 measles cases, including four deaths, in Shangil Tobaya, warning that the numbers are likely to rise due to weak health response.
