Khartoum State Subsidizes Bread Prices for Citizens
The Higher Committee for Emergency and Crisis Management in Khartoum State, chaired by the Wali of Khartoum, Ahmed Othman Hamza, reviewed in its regular meeting the outcomes of the Economic Committee tasked with developing urgent measures and interventions to address the rise in bread production costs.
The increase has been driven by ongoing fluctuations in exchange rates, which have led to higher input costs for bread production.
The committee affirmed that stabilizing bread supply is a top priority due to its direct impact on citizens’ livelihoods, stressing the need for urgent interventions to mitigate the effects of rising prices.
The meeting directed the swift implementation of practical solutions aimed at absorbing the increase in bread prices. It also instructed the designation of a number of bakeries in each locality to be included in a government-supported program in Khartoum State.
Under this program, flour and other bread production inputs will be provided at subsidized prices in cooperation with military institutions.
