Journalists’ union condemns abduction of Zamzam Khater’s family

The Sudanese Journalists Union has strongly condemned the reported raid by Rapid Support Forces (RSF) elements on the home of journalist Zamzam Khater’s family in Kutum, North Darfur, describing it as a “brutal attack” that crossed all red lines.

The union said armed men stormed the house, terrorised women and children, looted property, and abducted several family members and guests to an unknown location, holding the RSF fully responsible for their safety.

It described the incident as part of a broader pattern of violations against civilians and a systematic campaign targeting journalists to silence them, noting that the attack was linked to Khater’s recent field reporting.

The union called for the immediate disclosure of the abductees’ whereabouts and their unconditional release, adding that it had begun raising the case internationally with the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists Union, the African Union, and UN human rights bodies.
