Huge Chinese Grant to Sudan

The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning has witnessed the signing of a new financial grant agreement from China to Sudan, amounting to 210 million Chinese yuan.

This step represents further support for the strategic relations between the two countries and a practical translation of the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation summit hosted by the Chinese capital, Beijing, in September 2024.

The agreement was signed on the Sudanese side by Mohamed Bashar, Undersecretary of Planning at the Ministry of Finance, and on the Chinese side by Zhang Xianghua, Chargé d’Affaires at the Chinese Embassy in Sudan.

Bashar underlined that the agreement falls within the framework of implementing the outcomes of the summit, in which President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) participated. He noted that the Chinese grant would be used to support vital sectors in the country, namely health, water, and education, as these are among Sudan’s top priorities at present, particularly in light of the circumstances caused by the war.

For his part, the Chinese Chargé d’Affaires explained that this grant represents an important implementation step within the joint mechanism established by Sudan and China to coordinate and implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit. He pointed out that this mechanism was continuing its work to develop a comprehensive, detailed plan for Sudan’s actual development and service needs, stressing his country’s commitment to deepening economic cooperation with Sudan and actively participating in development and reconstruction operations, in accordance with the priorities determined by the Sudanese authorities.
