The alliance of former Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, “Samoud,” held intensive meetings with African Union (AU) officials to discuss ways to end the war in Sudan and achieve an urgent ceasefire.
According to a press statement on Wednesday by the alliance’s spokesperson, Bakri Al-Jak, the visiting delegation to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, met with Sudan affairs officials and the African Union Commission, led by Ambassador Mohamed Beliesh, and held an extended meeting with the Chief of Staff of the AU Commissioner’s Office, Minister Mohamed Al-Amin Sweif.
The meetings, the statement said, discussed the Quartet Roadmap as a basis for reaching a ceasefire agreement, ensuring an end to ongoing atrocities and violations, and establishing effective arrangements to protect civilians and secure humanitarian access to those affected across the country.
During the discussions, the “Samoud” delegation presented its vision on coordinating the tracks of the peace process among various parties and mechanisms for unifying local, regional, and international efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace in Sudan.
The statement noted that in the coming days, the delegation will continue meetings with representatives of diplomatic missions and regional and international organizations, as part of the alliance’s efforts to respond to the tragic developments in the country and pursue a political solution to end the war and alleviate the suffering of millions of Sudanese whose lives have been devastated by the conflict.
