Government Spokesperson: Rapid Support Militia is in a Real “Impasse”

Interviewed by Abid Said Ahmed

Sudanese Echoes- Minister of Culture and Information, Government Spokesperson Dr. Graham Abdel- Gadir has affirmed that the insurgent Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Militia is in a real dilemma in its relationship with citizens due to its looting of citizens’ property, terrorizing them, and raping free women, wondering how it can coexist with them in the future.

At the same time, the Minister of Information attributed the external weakness of the media to the lack of media attachés abroad as they were closed some years ago.

Sky News Channel Shutdown

Dr. Graham revealed, in an interview with ” Sudanese Echoes”, new details about the closure of the Sky News office in Sudan, “It was shutdown for beaming misleading information about Sudan when it aired a film about events in another country and citizens other than our citizens, and it attributed them to Sudan.”

The minister acknowledged that the principle in the media is “No Ban”, because information must be available to everyone, stressing, “But we will not allow hatred to be stirred up within a sovereign state.”

Starting from Scratch

As for the reason for the decline of Sudan National TV, the minister says, “When the TV resumed broadcasting from Port Sudan, it started from scratch; all its capabilities including cameras, devices and equipment were destroyed by the rebel Rapid Support Militia in Omdurman, describing its return to broadcasting as a miracle.

The minister revealed the import of new devices, stressing that they will bring about a major shift, in addition to the expected shift in programs. The minister spoke about a trend to upgrade six state TV stations to the national level.

Restructuring Radio and Television

In the same context, the Minister of Information unveiled the existence of violations and discrepancies in the structures of employees in radio and television stations in the states, pointing out that they found, in state stations, more than 200 workers who were appointed by a wali (governor), despite the fact that the federal ministry is the one paying the “salaries”.

The minister pledged not to keep any director of the state TV station for a long period after the restructuring, and they will be rotated to other states to acquire the knowledge and cultures necessary to deepen patriotism.

Impasse of the Rebel Rapid Support Militia

He said that the claim of the rebel Rapid Support Militia that it is fighting the State of 56 is not true, asking what is the State of 56? He stressed that there is no such thing as the State of 56, unless the militia wants to be colonized or wants to bring it back again.

The minister explained that citizens flee from areas controlled by the RSF militia to areas controlled by the armed forces because they are safe.
