From Washington: Sudan Presents Sustainable Growth Program at World Bank Meetings
The State Minister for Finance, Mohamed Noor Abdel Daem, participated in the meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the African Group I (AG1) at the World Bank, held as part of the 2026 Spring Meetings in Washington. The participation comes within the framework of government efforts to restore Sudan’s active role in international financial forums.
In his address to the group, the Minister reviewed indicators of economic recovery that the country has begun to witness, noting the implications of the government’s return to exercising its functions from the capital, Khartoum. The meeting discussed the economic performance of AG1 countries for the year 2025, alongside an analysis of financial indicators for the first quarter of the current year amid the exceptional geopolitical conditions affecting the Middle East region.
During the meeting, the Minister launched an ambitious medium-term program aimed at creating an enabling growth environment and accelerating future readiness, based on:
• Launching a package of strategic projects and opening diverse investment opportunities.
• Mobilizing private sector capital and stimulating its capacities to create sustainable jobs.
• Restructuring debt at lower costs, and strengthening governance and transparency to improve tax collection efficiency.
• Encouraging major cross-border projects as a gateway to African economic integration.
The State Minister stressed the need for the World Bank and international financial institutions to assume their responsibilities toward conflict-affected countries, including Sudan, in order to ensure regional stability and shared prosperity. He affirmed that sustainable solutions require deepening international partnerships and providing the necessary support to address structural constraints facing the national economy.
