Egypt to Germany: We Support a Ceasefire in Sudan and an Inclusive Political Process — Under Conditions

Egypt announced on Tuesday its support for efforts to push forward an inclusive political process and achieve a sustainable ceasefire in Sudan.

It stipulated that this should take place within the framework of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, ensuring non-interference in its internal affairs, and preserving the institutions of the Sudanese state.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty briefed his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, on the outcomes of his recent visit to Sudan in early October.

Abdel-Atty outlined Egypt’s ongoing efforts aimed at achieving a lasting ceasefire to end the crisis and to ensure the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, in coordination with the United Nations, its agencies, and international organizations.

Regarding water security, the Egyptian Foreign Minister affirmed that it represents an existential issue for Egypt.

He stressed the importance of cooperation in accordance with the rules of international law to safeguard the interests of all Nile Basin countries, while rejecting unilateral measures that contravene international law in the Eastern Nile Basin.

He emphasized that Egypt will take all necessary measures, consistent with international law, to protect its water security.
