Due to hunger… Dozens die in two months in South Kordofan

The Sudan Doctors Network announced on Saturday that 46 people died due to malnutrition in two months in South Kordofan State, noting that approximately 19,000 nursing and pregnant women are in dire need of nutrition.

The network said in a statement posted on its Facebook page that its team “monitored the deaths of 46 people in South Kordofan due to malnutrition during July and August, most of whom were women and children.”

The independent medical network added that more than 19,000 pregnant and nursing women are in urgent need of additional nutrition. It emphasized that starving civilians and using food as a weapon of war is a crime against humanity and a war crime under international law.

It condemned in the strongest terms the continued siege and starvation of civilians by the Rapid Support Forces, calling for the immediate lifting of the siege and the opening of safe humanitarian corridors that allow the unrestricted entry of food and medicine.

The network called on local, regional, and international authorities, the World Health Organization, and all relevant humanitarian agencies to intervene immediately to save the lives of pregnant and lactating women and children before it’s too late.

Recently, the three states of Kordofan—North, West, and South—have witnessed violent clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.
