Artillery Fire on Al-Dalang Kills Five, Injures Dozens Amid Escalating Violence

Five people were killed and 33 others injured after artillery shelling struck the city of Al-Dalang in South Kordofan State, according to the Sudan Doctors Network, which accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N)-Al-Hilu faction- of carrying out the attack.

In a statement issued on March 4, 2026, the network said the shelling targeted the neighborhoods of Freish, Al-Marafeed, and Al-Hilla Al-Jadida, causing civilian casualties and varying degrees of destruction to homes and private property. Medical facilities in the city received dozens of wounded, some in critical condition, amid an “extremely complex” operational circumstances for health workers.

The network warned that the use of heavy artillery in densely populated areas poses grave risks to civilian lives, stressing that the targeting of residential neighborhoods constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law. It held both the RSF militia and the SPLM-North faction fully responsible for the bombardment.

The statement further called on the international community, as well as UN and human rights organizations, to take urgent action to pressure for an end to attacks on civilians and to ensure their protection.

It also urged guarantees for residents who have begun voluntarily returning to the city following the lifting of the siege, cautioning that continued shelling would aggravate the humanitarian crisis and further deteriorate health conditions in Al-Dalang.
